In the world today, something pretty cool is happening. Over the last decade or so, we’ve seen multiple startups emerge from this idea of sharing things and services. Sharing homes on Airbnb, Homeaway, and VRBO has become a hit. Driving Uber and Lyft has become an incredible way to make some extra money, get around easier, and has even disrupted the taxi industry. Delivering food and other goods on delivery apps such as Doordash and goPuff have disrupted the way we receive what we need on a daily basis. You get the point. However, something we’re just starting to see emerge in the year 2019 is the sharing of stuff. Companies are emerging out of nowhere to solve what we at JustGrabIt like to call, the Self-awareless Minimalists problem. …
You’re back?! 😍
Of course you are. No pressure.
No but really though, there’s a reason you’re here. You’re here because you want to learn what my crazy title actually means. “Don’t steal ideas. Stealing thinking.” A long time ago (4 years ago), I read a book that literally changed my life. How to Steal Like an Artist by Austin Kleon.
This book talks about one thought. One thing that makes it different than every other book I’ve ever read. Don’t steal people’s ideas. Steal the way those artists thought when they created their idea. …
Hi! I decided I should probably put a face to the name. So, without further-a-do, you can find my face below.
Let’s get to the real reason as to why you’re even here. You want to find some seriously cool inspiration for your app or website. Well, you’re in luck my friend. I happen to know some top-notch places to find inspiration. Find a list of my Top 3 GoTo’s for inspiration below.
Why I love it? It’s one of the best websites in the world for any digital designer. First, you have to get a special pass to even get to post your work on the site. It’s on an invite-only basis, so you pretty much can guarantee that the work is going to be good. The only down-side I know about Dribbble is that you have to create an account to even be allowed to search for anything. Overall though, after creating a quick account, it’s a phenomenal tool that will be sure to give you the inspiration you’re looking for. …
Hi! It is so good to be back. Wow, that sounded so bloggy, my bad. Totally not my intention. My real reason for being here is to bring you into the mind of a designer. Not just any designer though, into the mind of your very own homeboy Jonnie.
You see, I love writing. But lately, I’ve realized one of the most influential things that I could possibly bring into the world, possibly the most value I could bring to another human being, is teaching them how I think. Showing them why I make the decisions that I do.
So, for today’s legendary lesson, how to choose the perfect color for your app (or website). …
I just had a moment. A solid, out of the blue, just woke up from a nap…kinda moment. You see, before I get into this, I want to tell you a little story. Last week, I had an interview with a growing startup out in San Francisco, Simple Habit (shoutout to you guys for getting me introduced to this concept 🤙). Towards the end of the interview, the woman interviewing me said that she loved my work, yet she wanted to see more of my process.
So…over the last week, I’ve been reworking my portfolio. Specifically, adding processes to all of my projects. But understanding how to even do that didn’t happen overnight. In fact, I emailed a couple of my professors, as well as a Product Designer at Lyft, to really get a grasp on what “showing my process” really looks like. …
Life is interesting. Over these last 5 weeks or so, I have had…by far…the worst 5 weeks of my life. My life has flipped upside down, gone backwards, and turned 180 degrees in every possible way you could think of. I don’t want to get too far into the details, but basically, my grandma passed away a few weeks ago now. Due to this, I had to fly overseas for 10 days for the funeral, missing school and work. Not too long after, my fiance and I, after 3 years, went our separate ways. …
Before I get started, I’m currently writing on Tuesday at 11:39PM, so technically it’s still Tuesday 😏
Rant Ahead: I’m not saying all of this to complain. I’m just saying it to be transparent.
I’m a little lost to be honest with you guys. Last week was a rough week. Family and life got in the way. I have family visiting from overseas, my brother has his Bar Mitzvah on Saturday, and schoolwork has been eating up my time lately. I was also pretty sick, and I’m still not doing so hot. I created a design for a local pizzeria, but since I was so busy, I just threw it together and didn’t even like the outcome. Since I didn’t like the outcome, and I didn’t have any extra time, I never even pitched last week’s design. …
This one is going to be short & simple.
Week 2 Goals Review:
Not to make excuses & what not, but I’ve had family come in town from overseas, so I haven’t really had much time at all to work on this stuff. And in fact, I think I might even be getting sick now. Needless to say, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find the time to make this stuff happen. And I also just didn’t feel that a “checkup email” was enough to make this project go through. My goal was to go in unannounced to the restaurant and see where their thoughts were on my redesign. …
Week 2 already?! I know I know, you guys have probably been sitting by your computer screen waiting for me to release my 2nd update. And I also ride a unicorn to class and own a Maserati. Okay, let’s be realistic, the unicorn thing is never going to happen. But the Maserati is going to be mine one day!
Back to the important stuff.
This last week has been insane, and absolutely not what I planned out at all. My goals for this last week were to do 3 things:
