Project 10 — Week 2
Week 2 already?! I know I know, you guys have probably been sitting by your computer screen waiting for me to release my 2nd update. And I also ride a unicorn to class and own a Maserati. Okay, let’s be realistic, the unicorn thing is never going to happen. But the Maserati is going to be mine one day!
Back to the important stuff.
This last week has been insane, and absolutely not what I planned out at all. My goals for this last week were to do 3 things:
- To finalize which 10 companies I am going to redesign (I have more of an idea of what companies I’d like to tackle, but I definitely don’t have a complete list).
- Redesign my online website (which is now basically finished). Check it out here: http://jonnierozin.com/
- To set dates and goals to have everything done by (which I did).
- Added goal not previously stated: Finish and pitch my first company redesign (which I did on Friday, August 31st).
Here are my dates and goals to have everything done by:
- Weekly on Tuesdays — send out weekly update to WAIMers and anyone else who gives a damn.
- Weekly on Thursdays — finish weekly company redesign.
- Weekly on Fridays — send out or pitch company redesign to said company.
- Weekly on Fridays — send out check up with prior week’s company (just in case I haven’t heard back yet).
This plan should take me right through Friday, November 2nd.

Okay, now that we got that portion done. Somethings I want to touch on. First, I’ve added to my process of designing. I recently watched a video by Jesse Showalter on YouTube (awesome full stack designer dude), and he explained what his process of designing looked like, which got me thinking. I really don’t have a process, so I created one. I added 2 things to my process. The first thing I added was something called Wireframing (basically drawing lines, squares, and X’s to create a rough design and get some ideas out on a page).
See the attached wireframe example I drew up.
Secondly, I added something called Moodboarding, with a program called InvisionApp. Moodboarding allows you to go find inspiration, throw screenshots into one folder, and share that with clients to help them get a vision of what your vision is. Make sense? Check out the image below.

Something cool I also found out about within the last week that I am super excited about is a plugin for Sketch App (my designing software) called Anima App. Anima App allows you to do tons of things, but I’ve been playing around with 2 specific features. First, Launchpad, which will literally take your design files and turn them into complete coded websites. Crazy?! I know! The second feature is something called Timeline, which helps you animate different aspects of your website.
The reason I’m particularly excited about this plugin is because it has opened even more doors for me. I can now easily develop simple websites and sell them, whereas before, even though I know HTML & CSS, it would still take me much longer to develop websites. Anima App has literally saved me WEEKS in the process. WEEKS!
Lastly, I really really wanted to show you guys what I created this past Friday that I ended up pitching. There is a Chinese/Korean restaurant locally that I go to all of the time, and it’s called Charlie Kang’s. If you’re ever in the East Lansing area, go there. You won’t regret it. Anyways, I redesigned their website one evening, went there for lunch the next day with a close friend who also knows the owners, and pitched it to them on the spot…while eating lunch. They loved it! We exchanged information and I sent them my designs on Friday, as well as my pitch of what I’m helping them solve business-wise. Still haven’t heard back, but to be honest, it’s only a Tuesday after Labor Day Weekend. If I don’t hear anything by Friday, I’ll send out a check up email then.
Check out my redesign:

Also, before I forget, here are my goals for the next week:
- Finish the second company redesign on Thursday
- Pitch it to them on Friday
- Send out a check up email to Charlie Kang’s on Friday, if I haven’t heard back yet
Overall, crazy busy week. But already worth it. Sorry about such a long update, I just had so much I wanted to say! Hope you enjoyed it! Looking forward to what the future holds. Stay tuned.
Jonnie.
