Casting Its Light

Casting its light
Casting a shadow
A black dog beneath
A stumbling drunk
A hurrying figure, not wanting to wait
To be somebody’s victim

A cliché, but mostly
The only thing passing is time
No drug lords or youths
No romantic couples
No travellers, laden with bags

A workman on an early start
A bicycle, perhaps
But then, nothing
Nothing at all.
