I guess I got so focussed on trying to demonstrate and teach the concepts of Bayesian inference that it never occurred to me that my example didn’t actually perform inference on a parameter of a model. When I first wrote this, I was still doing my PhD in the biochemistry department so the example was relevant and bond length is a parameter of the protein models that were being built. However, I appreciate that this isn’t an example that necessarily resonates with the general population. So I’m sorry for causing confusion. I’ll definitely be more considerate of this in future so thank you for brining it up.
