Amy Bruckman offers this definition of the “Rheingold Test”:
An online group where members offer one another material support passes “the Rheingold Test.”

She suggests that “When a site passes The Rheingold Test, it means there is something interesting happening there — that the whole is more than the sum of its parts.” And she asks, “Do you know a site that passes the test?”

e-NABLE members routinely send material support (3D-printed prosthetics components) to each other, and the community is organized to send 3D-printed prosthetics to non-members, for free.

I’d call that the “connected humanitarians” test.
