Design for All…for all!

e-NABLE goes to the White House.

Neither of these is an e-NABLE prosthetic, but the photo does capture a certain je ne sais quoi. Non?

Yesterday the White House hosted a “Design for All Showcase” that featured (among others Peregrin Hawthorne, OpenBionics, Johnny Matheny and other friends of e-NABLE.

One point was missed though. While everyone celebrated the renaissance in Inclusive Design and assistive technology, no one explicitly pointed out e-NABLE’s unique(?) contribution — bringing the opportunity to engage in Universal Design to everyone.

“I wear this hand because I designed it. I made it. And it is ME.” — Peregrine Hawthorne.

“Everyone,” of course, includes the people who use these devices. Like Peregrine, whose personal statement — delivered in his typically macho yet modest style — was made possible by e-NABLE. “I wear this hand because I designed it. I made it. And it is me!”
