“Film of the Week: Point Break (Original 1991)”
Director: Kathryn Bigelow (most underrated director of all time)
5 Sidney’s***** every time. This is the greatest film ever made and Kathryn Biglow does not receive nearly enough credit for directing the best surfing action-adventure film that I have still seen to this day. Everything about this film calls to me, from Utah’s upbeat enthusiasm about his job, only to discover that the people he was supposed to be working against we in some instance more loyal and normal than the people who was working for, the surging calling to him, the bonding that formed over the sharing of those waves, the skydiving, and the recurring leg injuries that always occur at the wrong time. Johnny Utah never gives up, and when he finally goes and catches his man, he realizes that nature is the true judge and that the career he worked so hard for to obtain wasn’t even want he wanted all along. I actually cannot think of a better movie. I can think of more iconic ones; Casa Blanca, etc.,s but for me, there is no more enjoyable movie to throw on and watch and learn something new every time.
