Maui Day 3 and 4
Hey Kelly!!
This is long overdue, but here’s pictures from our road to Hana trip yesterday. It was really long, but a lot of fun because I got to drive! Definitely a super scenic drive like the entire way. Like you said, the only downsides were the hair-pin turns and single lanes (well two way but they’re super narrow). The drive itself wasn’t too difficult. The single lanes and blind corners reminded me of my street back home (I guess you’ll find out this Friday :P). But I wasn’t super comfortable with the size of the car, so that made it a bit harder. My dad drove in front of us most of the time (we took two cars) so that made it easier because if there was an oncoming car, they’d have to stop for him or he’d have to pull over first, and then I could just caravan with him. We went on that E Komo Mai hike that you, your dad, and your brother did though! It’s the one with the seven sacred pools!! I saw people jumping off and I really really wanted to find a place to jump off too. But we had my triplet cousins with us, and it was super crowded. Definitely a turnoff. So we didn’t jump lol. Maybe next time in Hawaii though! Haha I know what you mean about salt water though. I actually would prefer the ocean water to fresh water. Ocean water is salty (which I just spit out) while fresh water (specifically from a lake or waterfall) taste stale and nasty. Hahaha but salt water is annoying. I’d just prefer that to freshwater. I guess at least fresh water doesn’t sting your eyes like salt water can.
Today…
My dad and I went boogie boarding again in the morning. Originally we were planning on going to McKenna beach because that’s where the big waves were. But when we got there, the lifeguards told us that it was super rough; the waves were huge and the surf broke right on the sand, so the waves would just slam you down. Apparently it was the beach with the most accidents, so I was like I don’t want to be paralyzed or break an arm before you got there, so we opted for a calmer beach. It was still really fun! Really crowded though. At first it was so crowded I didn’t want to go in. My dad was like, “Oh I’ll just watch you” and I was like well that’s no fun. I actually really wanted him to go in, but I figured I might as well since we were there and it’d be good leadership training to take the plunge first. So I just started riding the waves. There were some really good ones! I definitely got thrown over by a couple of them, but for the most part I was able to ride most of them in! Eventually I convinced my dad to come boogie board with me. It was super fun to ride big waves with him! And yeah. I wrote this before I did the video, so I’ll stop here and hopefully tell you more of what happened there!
