8 Things I Wish I Brought to My Internship the First Day

I like to over-prepare for things. This can be a hit-or-miss game. Sometimes, over-preparing makes all the difference, and sometimes I over-prepare in all the wrong ways.
Before the first day of my internship this summer, I was checking off all the boxes my company had for me and all of the extra boxes I thought would be helpful. One of them was small — figuring out what to bring the first day. I emailed and asked if I needed anything besides a pen and notebook, and they said I didn’t even need that for the first day.
So I was supplies-less, happy, and prepared going into orientation. What I cleverly forgot, though, was thinking about what I should bring after orientation ended.
Here are the 8 things I wish I’d brought to my desk the first day:
- Pencil
- Pen
- Notebook
- Gum
- Hand-Sanitizer
- Scissors
- Tape
- Sharpie
I’ve slowly gathered most of these in my desk drawers and briefcase over time this summer. I actually have my hand-sanitizer in my room right now, I should put that back in my purse. The scissors and tape I’m still missing. Should also bring those with me tomorrow.
With all that said, I wish you every bit of preparedness a good list can offer in your future office pursuits. Have a great day.
