Isn’t the role always the same? To convince others the designer has credible design skills.
Even keeping a portfolio as a memoir suggests the designer plans on sharing it at some point.
Seems like question #1 refers to format of the portfolio, opposed to role. You’re highlighting 3 formats of design portfolio: final designs, case studies, and portfolio-art.
Anyway, I think 99% of design portfolios are a waste of time. They’re usually terrible at convincing anyone of anything because they either have too little or too much information.
