Introducing: Students of Design
A new podcast that celebrates Canadian design students with open and honest conversation.
It was a little less than a year ago when I discovered my first podcast, Tobias van Schneider’s NTMY Show. Before listening to this show, I didn’t even know what a podcast was. I thought it had to something to do with an iPod… I don’t know.
All I know is that I never thought that I would enjoy listening to design podcasts so much. Through the one on one conversations that these hosts were having with their guests, it created a intimate setting in which to discuss a topic that I truly enjoyed. Upon listening to other shows such as Design Details, LayoutFM, and DesignLife, I really became hooked on design podcasts. It was at this time that I began thinking of how I could create my own.
As a design student, you always hear of big designers doing fantastic work for large companies. They win awards, they get press, and for good reason. But I knew that not all great designers are constantly celebrated. And I knew of a group who are particularly talented, but have yet to break into the spotlight. That group is “The Student”. The people who work hard day in and out in order to learn their craft and become better. And on this learning journey they produce some fantastic work, and have a lot of insight about design.
Students of Design will be a podcast with guests ranging from all fields of design. Graphic, Web, Interior, Fashion, Architecture, and more. Now more than ever, the multidisciplinary designer is being valued. And I believe that having this variety of talented students on the show will allow not only myself, but you, the listeners, to gain valuable knowledge in multiple fields. It won’t always be serious though. I’m sure the off topic rant may occur, or bad jokes will arise. Ultimately, Students of Design will be a show that will create engaging dialogues with talented individuals who are passionate about their craft.
With all of this being said, this post marks the launch of Students of Design, and I am actively looking for guests to speak with. If you are a Canadian student currently studying a design discipline, and wish to be on the show, please send a short bio and portfolio to email@example.com. I look forward to going through the responses.
And since this is a new project, I would really appreciate a share and/or recommendation on this article to help grow the audience. I know it will be a difficult road to gain following, but I hope this project will provide you all with some value. Thank you very much.
