League trends would probably portend that a stretch four would be the candidate to replace Favors.

  • favors isn’t a modern four, but reducing him to a “shortish brawler” greatly understates his game. he’s a fantastic defender and a good interior scorer. the problem is that his best position is actually an undersized/small ball 5 (as seen when gobert was hurt), and Utah is set at the 5 for the foreseeable future.
  • a team looking to acquire such a player could be willing to move a good player or assets to get him at or before the deadline. he’d actually be perfect in NY with porzingis, but the Knicks don’t have the assets to make that deal worthwhile for Utah. I’d love to see him end up with my Pacers next to Myles Turner, I think that fit would be amazing. favors needs to be paired with a big who can stretch the floor, but regardless Utah should have a top 3 defense and be really damn good this season — like top 4 in the west good.
