I brought myself up believing that everything French was right. After all, this was how the French felt, and they were the best country ever, so who was I to disagree? I had had a France Dream for decades. In my mind France was infallible and perfect, and if I had an opinion that was different from France’s, I was an uncouth barbarian and hopelessly wrong and probably a bad person too.

It’s easy and comfortable to maintain antiquated self-limiting and self-negating beliefs.

So coming to France straight from Sicily was an eye-opener.
