The Time Is Now

Time.
The most valuable thing we’ve been given.
Everyone has time. Some use it for good, and others use it for bad. Regardless of what you do with your time, it stops for no one. Time will pass whether you lay in bed all day or go climb Mt. Everest. It doesn’t stop.
How do you choose to spend your time?
In 2015, I chose to spend my time focusing on work and I lost myself in the rat race of trying to prove myself to the rest of the world. I skipped vacations with my family, I said no to hanging out with friends, I didn’t go to cool events, and I even told my brother I couldn’t visit him in California even though he asked me at least 6 times.
I was sucked into the dysfunctional mindset of work work work AND then I can find time later on in life to do things I enjoy. But is that really true? Not a chance.
No one knows how much time we have on this Earth. As 2015 went on, people I know passed away. In March, it was a close family friend I knew for years. I sobbed when I learned he passed away. In the summertime I lost a friend I went to school with. He was only 20. In the winter, it was another family friend who was fighting ALS for years. He left behind a wife and 2 beautiful children.
The loss of my friends shook my core. It was a painful wake-up call.
It’s a terrifying thought but we rarely think about the reality that our time can be taken in one second. But…it can. It can be taken and there is nothing we can do about it.
What we can do is choose to live intentionally until our time is up. As I said before, 2015 was a year I lost myself in work. I promised myself 2016 would be different. I would live intentionally and no longer use work as an excuse for the reason I don’t spend time with friends, family or travel the world.
As I write this post, I am driving with my best friend from Los Angeles back to Atlanta. Why? We always said we would take a road trip across the country but never made the time in the past. Now, we choose to live intentionally and make the most of the time we’ve been given. (and I finally visited my brother after skipping out on it for so long).
Where are you spending your time? Is it where you want it to be? If not, figure out a way to make a change and refocus your time on the things that matter to you.
I promise it’s not as complicated as you think. Take a long, hard look in the mirror and be honest with yourself. Put one foot in front of the other and take the first step today.
The time is now, don’t waste it.
I’d love to hear about where you are spending your time. You can comment below or email me at jordanagolli@gmail.com
