My Sample Student

  • Jessica Conway
  • 13 years old student in 8th grade
  • “I like school but it can be boring.”
  • Jessica is very social orientated. She likes interacting with her friends and enjoys working through puzzles.
  • Jessica is new to VR.

Education App for Jessica

  • Google Cardboard or Gear VR would be the most accessible platform for this student. Most 8th grade students have smartphones, so this app could be used in the classroom or at home. Other platforms such as the HTC Vive would be too expensive.
  • The application can have passive moments but it should also include movement or interaction with objects because of the short attention span of teenage students.
  • The visuals can be low resolution 2D images and videos as long as they are captivating.

Using Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality would be a very useful tool for the classroom. Teachers would need less supplies, there would be less cleanup, less wasted time transitioning from activity to activity and more engagement from the students. Even a simple activity like changing values in a graph and seeing how they affect a car’s speed over time would be more engaging for students if the car was right in front of them.
