Sharon Osbourne, 70, reveals devastating side effect of Ozempic weight loss

Sharon Osbourne has been in the spotlight lately for her dramatic weight loss, which she attributes to taking Ozempic, a medication for type 2 diabetes that also suppresses appetite. However, the TV personality and wife of rock legend Ozzy Osbourne has also revealed a devastating side effect of the drug: she can’t gain weight back even if she wants to.

In a recent interview with Piers Morgan, Sharon said that she lost 42 pounds on Ozempic, but she didn’t intend to drop that much. She said she felt nauseous, thirsty and had no desire to eat for weeks after starting the medication. She also expressed concern about the potential misuse of the drug by younger people who may see it as a quick fix for weight loss.

“You’ve got to keep this stuff away from younger people because they will go berserk on it and it’s not right,” she said.

Sharon is not the only celebrity who has endorsed Ozempic as a weight loss aid. Oprah Winfrey has also admitted to using the drug and losing 15 pounds in two months. However, experts warn that Ozempic is not a magic bullet for obesity and it comes with serious risks and side effects.

Ozempic is a once-weekly injection that mimics a hormone called GLP-1, which regulates blood sugar and appetite. It is approved by the FDA for people with type 2 diabetes who have not achieved adequate blood sugar control with other medications. It is also approved for people with chronic obesity who have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, or 27 or higher with at least one weight-related health condition, such as high blood pressure or high cholesterol.

However, Ozempic is not meant to be used alone for weight loss. It should be combined with a healthy diet and exercise program, and it should be monitored by a doctor who can adjust the dose and check for any adverse reactions. Some of the common side effects of Ozempic include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, headache, fatigue and dizziness. Some of the rare but serious side effects include pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, kidney failure, thyroid cancer and allergic reactions.

Moreover, Ozempic is not a permanent solution for weight loss. Once people stop taking the drug, they may regain some or all of the weight they lost. This can lead to a cycle of yo-yo dieting, which can harm the metabolism and increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Dr. Michael Kane, a professor of pharmacy practice at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, told Healthline that people need to be aware that Ozempic is not a quick fix for weight loss.

“Patients should be counseled that these medications are not magic bullets,” he said. “They still need to make lifestyle changes such as eating healthier foods and increasing physical activity.”

He also advised that older people should be careful when taking Ozempic, as they may be more prone to side effects.

“Older patients may be more susceptible to dehydration due to nausea or diarrhea,” he said. “They may also have reduced kidney function or other medical conditions that could increase the risk of adverse events.”

Sharon Osbourne said that she has stopped taking Ozempic and hopes to regain some of her lost weight. She said that her husband Ozzy has been teasing her by calling her “Nancy Reagan” due to her thin appearance.

“I didn’t actually want to go this thin, but it just happened,” she said. “It’s just time to stop.”
