This article is almost completely arbitrary and the examples are designed to make floating labels appear better. It is not an equal comparison because of the following reasons:
- The color of the labels in the floating label examples stand out more because they are blue, while the external labels are light gray.
- The external label examples have a little too much space between the labels and the inputs, making it harder to quickly correlate the two.
- Usability studies have noted that that using all caps for labels increases the amount of time it takes to scan and comprehend a form.
