The Gutenberg Editor

Over my years of writing daily blog posts, I have tried out numerous publishing tools. In general, I do my best to keep things stupid simple. I want as little friction as possible. I want to focus on the words and the little aesthetic I deem necessary (perhaps an image or two and easy to read links). And I want the posts to last forever!

Maintaining a minimalistic process is critical — it is the only way for me to continue this “daily blog post” pace.

A key component of this workflow is the “text editor” that I use. I started with Medium. Then I switched to Wordpress. Then I switched to Posthaven. And now I am back at Wordpress.

And I think I am staying on Wordpress, now forever, in large part due to Gutenberg, their brand new text editor experience.

We call the new editor Gutenberg. The entire editing experience has been rebuilt for media rich pages and posts. Experience the flexibility that blocks will bring, whether you are building your first site, or write code for a living.

Gutenberg is great — just the change Wordpress needed to keep me (and their millions of other publishers) hooked. It is simple and allows you to integrate rich media via copy paste!

I think that Gutenberg is the future of publishing for Wordpress. It will be the glue that ties together Wordpress’s “plugin-store” with the actual writing experience.

My hope is that it enables more writers to be more creative with their processes. It lowers the bar to imagination! And big risks! And wild storytelling.

Also, I am a big fan of Automattic (the company that runs Wordpress). I recently listened to a podcast with their CEO. I think you’ll like it!

Anyways…I know a short piece. But thanks Wordpress 🙇🏻This update means a lot!
