Ridin’ the ‘Coaster — 10/8/16

So it’s been about a week and a half since I last wrote and A LOT has definitely happened. The biggest thing is I have catered two events in the past week and a half and they were both absolutely AWESOME. The one bad thing that happened was my phone fell in the river last Saturday so I was actually phoneless all week and spent a lot of time trying to figure that out. More to come on that but I’m going in chronological order.

The first event was my lawyer’s birthday party. It was for about 35ish people and it was a smashing success. The event was on Sunday, the 2nd and I prepped the chili the Friday before. Then I stupidly went out until pretty late on Saturday night when I had to get up around 9 and make cornbread for the event. Luckily, I was able to get my ass up, run to the store, get the ingredients and make the cornbread just in time. I showed up about 15 minutes late but the cornbread was still hot and delicious. I was only planning on staying for an hour or two but I got carried away and ended up staying for the whole party. There were so many awesome people there that I was so lucky to meet and talk about the business with many of them.

I connected with a few people I had met before and was able to update them on what I was doing now — all were super excited for me and only wanted to help. One guy I met told me about his father’s success in the business world but how he had unfortunately gone to jail because of money and tax issues and that fucked up his entire life. He followed up with me the next day to introduce me to his father and I’m now getting coffee with the dad on Tuesday! I’m super excited to sit down with him and hear stories about his successes and failures and hopefully learn a lot from him. I was also able to schedule a meeting with another guy I reconnected with which will happen the week after this one.

I got in my car around 5 PM and almost fell asleep immediately. I had been so busy meeting and talking with people and being excited that I hadn’t realized how tired I was. So I went home and immediately passed out.

The next day I spent about 4 hours trying to figure out my phone situation. Luckily, one of my roommates keeps all her old phones so she gave me one to use. But unfortunately, she uses AT&T and let me tell you, phone companies really DO NOT want you to use phones from other companies. She gave me an iPhone 5 and I spent most of Monday and the next two days trying to figure out how to make it work. By the end of the day Wednesday they finally told me that there was no way it was going to happen so I had to figure something else out. Also during this time I was getting slammed with work from my side job so I barely spent any time on the business.

Wednesday also happened to be that same roommate’s birthday and it just so happens that her brother-in-law always sends her a new phone on her birthday. So, by a stroke of luck for me, she received an iPhone 7 and was happy to give me her old iPhone 6. The main problem with the 5 was that it was too old to be switched over on the networks but the 6 was actually super easy. So finally on Friday I was able to have a phone again.

I was able to do a little bit of work on the business on Tuesday when I went into the warehouse and talked with 068 about what they were currently working on, all the updates, etc. But what I mainly did for the business this week was cater another event on Friday, yay! I spent all day Thursday making the chili and then woke up early Friday to warm it up and do the cornbread. The event was a 068 event where they invited all their sponsors to come to the warehouse and showcased the success of their past companies and celebrated the start of new ones. Fortunately for me, the other new companies weren’t really there and since I was catering the event, it was mostly a Revival Chili showcase, HOW DOPE IS THAT?!?!

I didn’t think it was going to get much better but ESPN Radio was also broadcasting from the warehouse because they had past and present Steelers players talking about the season. So I, and Revival Chili, was actually mentioned on ESPN Radio SEVERAL TIMES! They even talked about how good the chili was — IT WAS RIDICULOUS. When there was a commercial break they went to get some chili and unfortunately there was no meat chili left so they had to get the vegan. When they were getting it, I told them they wouldn’t even notice that it was vegan. So then they got on the radio, told that story and told everyone how amazing the chili was. And they said it was so good, they wouldn’t have been able to tell it was vegan it I hadn’t told them — HOW DID I GET SO LUCKY?!

So yeah, last week was a mixture of amazing and not so amazing but I’d say a positive experience on the whole. I actually enjoyed not having a phone because I was still able to text people from my computer and it was pretty liberating to not have to worry about it. But unfortunately, it’s not very feasible to not have a phone and be starting a business so that definitely could not last. One last thing, I’ll be starting training this week which is super exciting so more updates to come for sure! Hope everyone has a great weekend!
