Tesla: The Improvisation Debt

I agree with nearly everything you say, thanks for putting it down so well. His mission to Mars will suffer an even higher improvisation debt. These issues are why I’ve never invested in Tesla.

Just one small problem: Elon has proved me wrong, time and again. 9 years ago I could have talked your ear off about how foolish it is, to try and sell electric cars for $100,000 each, in the middle of the worst recession the country has seen since the 1930s, when people weren’t willing to buy them even at a fraction of the price. The capital costs of starting a new car company are insane and history is full of failed car ventures. SolarCity is still around even though many of its competitors have gone belly-up. SpaceX competes not with other companies, but with other countries, and their most recent rocket launch blew up on the launch pad — and yet, they’re around and growing.
So, yeah, what you say is right on target… but history predicts you and I will be proven wrong. And there’s a lot to be learned there.
