Instrumentation tests are great but they are not a replacement for unit tests.

I think you misinterpreted what I said, I’m not saying integration or instrumentation test are better than unit test, I’m saying that the description of a unit test in the post is actually referring to an instrumentation test, in a unit test you test things in isolation, which means you should be testing logic of your application only, but once you start creating instances of your activities and much things on it that’s not a unit test anymore.
