Very often listicles emphasize what we’re doing wrong instead of taking a positive approach. It’s not hey, here’s some handy info for your convenience. Instead, it’s hey, you’re no good for these reasons. I consider this an Internet equivalent to negging. Promote insecurity to hook people onto you.
Not saying it’s a conscious decision. Probably most bloggers just follow the crowd when it comes to writing these things. It would be refreshing if bloggers reframed their content to focus on offering readers constructive guidelines — best practices, if you will.
