Count me as one of the few customers who actually used 1–800-MUSIC-NOW and enjoyed it. I was still in high school at the time, and ended up having to borrow my parents’ credit card. Aside from that inconvenience, I found it quite useful for finding new artists that weren’t so well known on the radio. Back in those days, few stores offered the luxury of listening to an album before buying. With each new CD costing an average of $18-20, purchasing a bad album was a real risk, and it happened all the time. MUSIC NOW was a breath of fresh air in an otherwise dark time of music shopping.

One big downside was that the customer had to know ahead of time what they were looking for. I eventually ran out of artists that interested me and never went back.
