I would argue that Safar Khan is also truly changed. She’s gone from unrelenting faith in her son’s innocence to doubting his innocence and believing she might have raised a monster. I’ve found Poorna Jagannathan’s performance mesmerizing. She’s been able to do a lot with very little and in this episode we find out that she truly believes her son is a murderer. I can’t help but think Price purposefully made Salim stay bullheaded in his belief that his son is innocent so he can show that the criminal justice system changes the mothers as much as it changes the accused.
