Dedication of a Teacher
Reflection on Life of St. John Baptist De La Salle
“I will continue, oh my God, to do all my actions for the love of you..” This prayer summarizes the life of St. John Baptist De La Salle.
Considering that I studied my undergraduate at DLSU, I knew little about his life. Only when my CSR class required us to watch a short film about the life of our patron saint, I realized that St. La Salle lived his life more saintly than I thought.
After watching the film, he immediately become my patron saint for dedication and perseverance. I saw his great focus on his work and on his love to our Lord Jesus. He continued his works and advocacy despite the trials and barriers that came. He never gave up up to his last breath. For me, he is the perfect example of a servant-leader and a risk taker.
He is a servant-leader because he gave up everything to fulfill his dedication to education. He was willing to gave up even the last bread he had, to feed others. He leads by example and motivated his fellow teachers to do the same and have some selfless sacrifices to achieve what was asked from him.
He is a risk taker because he did more unconventional practices for the betterment of the education system. He did not limit himself to what is safe and acceptable but rather opened his mind to new ideas and suggestions that was beyond normal during his days. But his openness to new things paid off and become effective educational systems.
I really admire him and his works and hopefully I could do the same in Jesus’ name. In his ways, I will let Jesus help me to do what is planned for me and will thrive my best to fulfill it.
