Protecting the planet
Urgency to save the world
Watching the Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore is really inconvenient at first. All he said was how the planet was suffering due to negligence of those who were born before us. He showed the before and after, and how the planet drastically changing to worse. I was scared and questions already built in my head that were basically focusing on one question, ‘are we already too late to save our planet?’
What struck me the most in the film was when I saw how Antartica is melting down rapidly. It’s like a block of ice on top of a plate under an extreme heat, melting and spilling water out of the plate. Definitely covering the whole table with water. In same analogy, the Philippines among others, being under sea level will be covered eventually with water. Imagine if we all have to live above water. No earth where trees can grow, no stable land where buildings and skyscrapers can be built and be stable enough. This could be the worst that could happen to our nation. Imagine those who struggle living in today’s world, how would they bear another obstacle living in the streets with water covering it. I see it as progress and modernization we are all striving for the last two decades will be wiped out and will be like those barbarians in the 1995 movie ‘Waterworld’. When I first saw the movie, it was like a never-to-happen fictional film. But now, with the current situation in Antartica, Greenland, and Arctic, it becomes more a near reality. This is such a scare.
But towards the end of the documentary, it was such a relief when Al Gore showed ways how to slow down the effect of global warming and destruction of our nature. At least I know that it is not too late. But we have move fast.
As Al Gore kept on repeating that what we are facing today is not a political issue but rather a moral one, involvement of everyone is expected. As a business leader which I consider myself to be, it is my responsibility as much as everyone’s responsibility, not only to do a preventive measure but also a saving effort to undo what had been done. May God continue to bless the planet.
