Travel Is No Cure For The Mind

Ever feel like you are living in an endless routine of eat, work, sleep and repeat? Ever feel like you are confined to a box of of the same exact daily experiences and the only escape is to travel? That is because traveling to see new places, things and ambiances is outside of your box of daily experiences. A lot of what we desire lives outside of our box, thats why just the thought of those things bring excitement and ambition. “Our current box is okay and livable, but the world outside of its boundaries is where our hope really resides”. After a little while once we attain those things outside of our box, and place them inside our daily experiences they don’t fulfill as much excitement as before. This article compared this feeling to getting a new car. After a month or so your excitement isn’t as high as the day you drove off the lot. That is because the car became part of your normal daily experiences, it just becomes another obsolete object that is part of your daily routine. Similar, to what a vacation does, it only serves as a dopamine hit of cultural experience.

“But here’s the thing. Regardless of what you do to break out of the box, it won’t work. You can change your external environment all you want, but you will continue to travel with the one box that will always accompany you.

The box known as your mind”.

Lesson learned here is that the actual cure is when your mind is at ease, not when traveling to new places.
