Its depends.
In contrast, I can say that jQuery is absolutely expendable nowadays. jQuery is not bad (in fact, I did use it many years ago) but it served its purpose.
Now, ES6 has many features built-in. We have also web components (via React, Vue, Polymer, etc) for DOM handling, XMLHttpRequest, etc.

So, it says: “You Should” it’s a bit exaggerated.
