Femi Azeez is a Problem for defenders
Millwall’s summer signing at winger has taken a bit of time to ingratiate himself to Neil Harris’ squad but he’s finally hit his stride and it’s been a lovely sight to see.
Azeez got the start at the bet365 Stadium and was a thorn in Stoke’s side from kickoff while operating largely down the left wing. The winger should have had an assist in the 11th minute but none of his teammates were able to get a boot on his cross in Stoke’s penalty area.
Azeez finally connected with a teammate in the 42nd minute and Josh Coburn was able to turn that cross into a goal to give his side the lead just before halftime.
Millwall may have finally found a winger who can create chances somewhat similarly to Jed Wallace.
Tanganga’s momentary lapse
Stoke tied the match at the hour mark when captain Ben Gibson headed a Joon-Ho Bae corner kick into the Millwall net at the near post.
Gibson managed to get in front of Japhet Tanganga with relative ease and had no problem heading the ball into an open Millwall net with very little resistance after the corner kick.
You don’t expect to see Tanganga making mistakes in the Millwall defense but he switched off for a few seconds and Stoke took advantage. The Lions have been great at defending set pieces with Tanganga in the lineup, so everyone in SE16 should be hoping Gibson’s goal was a one-off and not the product of a larger issue.
A point on the road
Millwall got seven of the available nine points from their three matches in the last week. Only taking a point at Stoke is more than okay for a Lions side that could use some time off as the international break commences.
