There is silence, there is no life, there are rotten derelict things. It is a ghost town. — I love black and white, but for this series, I needed colors. It is like I have an automated LUT processing in my head. There is reality, there is my perception of reality, and there is my interpretation of my own perception of reality. …

Confinement or no confinement? A dead city is a dead city. Walking here is like walking in a graveyard, though without the feeling of being in a sacred place. — A little while after sunrise, on a stormy day, the light is quite good to capture the tormented sky and clouds, and the dead city. I decided to use an old tiny compact camera from Samsung: the WB210.

Sometimes, a forest is just a forest. Sometimes, it is much more. Or something completely different. With climate change, snow where I am right now became pretty rare. As soon as I saw the first snowflakes falling from the sky, I got ready for some cold adventure. — I hate the cold. Below 80 I’m starting to get cold, below 70 I’m freezing to death. Cold is painful. Like knife stabbing painful. But Snow makes some nice photos so I soldiered up and took the Nikon D2Xs for a walk.

I love heat. I’m never more happy than when temperature is 100. I love the sun, the sensation of heat on my skin. Maybe I should live permanently in a place like Death Valley. It’s pretty boring from a photographer point of view, but at least climate is just right for me. — Anyways, heat or the impression of heat is something I like to shoot. A drive on the I-10 east in the San Gorgonio Pass wind farm when the sun started to get low was a perfect opportunity to shoot heat.

I am less and less interested in reality. My photos are less and less meant to depict that reality. I want, I need, my photos to depict what I see, what I feel, and that is not what is commonly accepted as reality. This old golden forest may not be old, or golden, or even a forest. And that doesn’t matter. — I’m lucky to have the tools, and the knowledge needed to use these tools, to turn what is to me the cold, dull, boring reality captured on my memory cards into my own personal vision.

My old forest is not only golden. It is also cursed. New emotions and feelings just a couple feet away from the golden spots. Same place, different visions. — Unlike technical talk, words don’t come easy to me when I want to share feelings, emotions, or what happens in my mind (that is an euphemism). Most of the time they don’t come at all.

The T-max 3200 was one of my favorite film, but the TRi-X 400 always was my absolute favorite: I could shoot it from 400 to 3200 (and sometimes more) and always loved the rendering and grain quality. — I don’t really shoot film anymore, even if I know I should. …
