The Conundrum of Consent, Care, and Disability
Emily Wolinsky

You rock, Emily.

I’m an active person with disabilities living independently and use a powerchair for mobility. Recently, while independently shopping for groceries in a supermarket, I felt a woman placing her hands on my head She began praying over me. “God! Heal this man.” Then she said God just spoke to her saying, “He will be healed if he repents of all his sins.”

(I can stand to transfer — clumsily though.) So I suddenly stood up, shouting, “I’m healed! I can stand!”

But before I took my first clumsy step, she ran off screaming.
