IA#2: Reflection on “Graffiti Wars”
- The art form presented in the documentary was Graffiti — a type of street art drawn or sprayed on public places. Officials’ basis for Graffiti art was from Banksy’s works; in which the artist uses stencil to create a picture and send important messages to everyone who sees his creations. While King Robbo’s works were considered as vandalism. Officials wanted to remove such art unless it was made by Banksy — his works were powerful and moving. It was also argued that Banksy’s signature style: Stencil shouldn’t be referred to as a graffiti art and that it was “cheating”.
- The artists are Robbo and Banksy. Robbo’s style is colorful and very expressive or direct. He doesn’t want anyone to mess up his creations or he’ll mess up yours. He wants his graffiti to be well-known and respected while still leaving a mystery. Banksy, on the other hand, is concerned about important issues. He sends messages to the public through stencil graffiti.
- We all have different views and opinions. At the end of the day, the only thing that will matter is what you think and believe. It’s only up to the public whether they’ll support this candidate or not. There’s no need for such arguments because it’s not about pulling somebody else down but it’s about moving forward and empowering yourself.
