How I see challenges and how you should too.
Hello, beautiful mind,
Welcome back to my lovely corner on the internet🌝.
Are challenges good or bad? recently, I have been doing some thinking and even though I don’t have any major updates on my machine learning journey. I will like to discuss this simple topic of challenges.
WHAT IS A CHALLENGE?
When I type the sentence “What is a challenge” into a search engine I get the result
1.
a call to someone to participate in a competitive situation or fight to decide who is superior in terms of ability or strength.
2.
a call to prove or justify something.
A challenge is something we all know and in many ways, we have been challenged by either people or circumstances even if it might be seen in a negative light by several people and not always wrongly so. I’ll like to remind us of the positivity that comes with a good challenge.
HOW WE SHOULD VIEW CHALLENGES?
Why don’t we bring this word into our daily lives for a brief instance, every single day knowingly or unknowingly you and I are challenged, some more than others and most of the time we don’t give the time of day to notice these challenges. Whether it is reaching a certain height at work, reading a certain number of pages in a book or running a certain number of miles maybe even when using social media, we all have challenges daily.
“Learn to pick your battles” is a wonderful saying isn’t it? Today let’s switch it up and say “Learn to pick your challenges”, it’s true that each day has its worries but not all of the worries that come with a day will be worth your time. Learn to take a break and square down what challenge it is that you want to tackle. A challenge can either make or mar you. The best challenges are the ones chosen with intent.
“You can’t reach a destination you don’t know” is another good saying. This can also be applied to challenges, challenges to me are stepping stones something like a means to an end. When I started my journey to learn machine learning I didn’t know what challenges I would face but now that I am embarking on it I have found many challenges and I have come to learn about picking the challenges that will serve my goal at the end of the day, I am learning to prioritize only the things that will bring me closer to my destination. I will like for you to also consider the things you do daily, recognize all the things that demand your attention and strength, and pick those that will serve you. Pick the challenges that will take you closer to your goals.
With all said I hope that you learn to pick your challenges. Learn to use your resources, time and energy on the right things. Don’t spread yourself thin. Learn to focus on the things that matter and identify the challenges that will bring you toward them. Indeed, we all won’t show up 100% every single time for the things that matter but after picking the challenges that matter try your best to show up for them consistently. I know this isn’t easy but challenge yourself and leave a challenge you will like to focus on in the comment section. Sharing something is a form of accountability.
CONCLUSION
A challenge is a means to an end and don’t be afraid of them as they will only get you closer to your goals. Have a lovely time picking the challenges you want to tackle and consistently show up for them.
See you in the next one
