A Japonese buried in the New Cathedral of Coimbra

Kagoshima is a Japanese maritime city, where a Japanese native lived, who was baptized by the Portuguese Jesuits, one not known if by force. This native, the name Bernardo lived between the years of 1534 to 1557, he belonged to the Society of Jesus, having remained in the college of Jesus in Coimbra. Before he had been sent to Rome, in the year 1554, where he lived with Ignatius of Loyola. Later he returned to Coimbra and died in this city. He is buried in the Church of the New Cathedral of Coimbra. His body rests in the Chapel of St. Ignatius of Loyola, in the left of the small ship.
