Are Chat Bots a Feature or a Product?

Most use cases right now are an extension of a current product. I think consumers, especially millennials, will “get it” faster than most businesses. We’ll see many companies simply try and port to a bot-driven, messaging-based interaction paradigm and fail miserably in the same way that businesses failed when they simply ported their web sites to mobile. Other businesses will find one thing that can work 10X better than what they do now (i.e. A.I. based CRM, 1-to-1 via messaging) and see measurable results. Over time though there will be huge businesses that start and grow purely through this paradigm, much the same way that Snapchat did for apps. I’m confident we’ll all see a B2B product on Slack and a consumer one on Messenger.
