5 Things We’re Looking Forward to at CEDIA 2016

As with any big conference, the CEDIA 2016 conference can be overwhelming with everything it has to offer. If you need some help planning your schedule, here are five things we think should not be missed at this year’s expo.

1. The Tech

As always, there will be some fantastic tech to explore. Some of our favorites companies to visit are Meridian (booth 5708) for high-end audio, Lutron (booth 5100) for whole-home lighting, Access Networks (booth 5722) for enterprise-grade home networking, and ihiji (booth 5712) for remote management of IP enabled devices. Also check out Innovation Alley, where you can see first-time exhibitors with young cool new tech, including LIFX (booth 4170) and August Home (booth 4169). If drones are your thing, be sure to swing by the Drone Zone to get a live demo and maybe even fly one yourself.

2. The People / Networking

Whether you are a first-timer at this conference or an experienced veteran, the CEDIA community is an open and welcoming one. For newbies, there is a first-time attendee event that gives you special access to the floor before the doors officially open. Other events, including one for women in CE, help to give you contacts and resources grow as a business and individual. There’s even a meet and greet with the world famous Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders on Friday and Saturday.

3. The Giveaways

What fun is a convention without free stuff? Of course, there will be the run-of-the-mill swag, such as pens and keychains, but there will also be giveaways for some pretty cool things. Crystal Screens (booth 4147) will be giving away a $2,000 screen after the show. All you have to do is stop by the booth and have them scan your badge. Peerless-AV (booth 2902) will be handing out a Daytona 500 Prize Package, worth up to $2,500. Stop by the booth and fill out a registration card to get in the running.

4. The CEDIA Talks

Again this year are TED style CEDIA talks taking place throughout the show at the CEDIA booth (4170). All of them are quick discussions that cover important and fun topics in our industry. Among the ones we are looking forward to are Peter Aylett’s talk on bio-adaptive lighting, Julie Jacobson’s talk on disruptive new business models, and Josh.ai CEO Alex Capecelatro’s talk on advancements in human-machine interaction.

5. The Beer

And of course, everything is better with beer. Each afternoon, you’ll find many of the exhibitors roll out a keg and host a meet & greet happy hour at their booths right on the exhibition floor. If you don’t have one on the calendar yet for Friday afternoon, swing by our friends at Meridian (booth 5708) for drinks from 3–5pm CST.
