Smart Home Design Inspiration

At we’re building a voice-activated control system for the home. Although voice is important, we’re still focused on designing a beautiful UI for everything from music control to lighting. Below are a few of the great design inspirations we’ve come across for the smart home.

1. Zuli Smartplugs

We’re big fans of the Zuli Smartplugs design. Below is the flow for a user setting up the smartplug for the first time. The app scans for new plugs, then takes the user down a customization path for each plug. We love the animation. See more at Dribbble.

2. Smart Home Concept

Here’s a fun smart home remote concept by Nick. This was a project he did to help practice his skills in sketch. We think it’s a great implementation.

3. Austin Tapper’s Concept

Here’s a fun concept by Austin Tapper with a unique and minimal approach to smart home control.

4. Apple Watch Concept

Andrii Klenin put together this fun Apple Watch Concept for the Vivint Smart home solution. The watch opens up some interesting opportunities and we love the creativity here.

5. Smart Home Animation

Love this animation by Gavin. It’s intended to show that the user’s home is learning. Pretty cool concept!

6. Tacle

Here’s a project by Rasmus Anker as part of his bachelor project at The Danish School of Media and Journalism (made together with @Sara Emilie Spon). The app is called Tacle and it introduces some new smart home design concepts.

7. Washing Controller

This design by Kingyo features an intelligent home control system interface design for a washing controller. You can real-time remote control washing. Love the simple clean interface and use of color.

8. Fan Switch + Controller

We don’t see too many fan controllers, but this one does a great job. Designed by Chiragd, this controller for a fan take a fun play on the radial dial. Nice attentiont to detail without cluttering the interface.

9. Lumen

This concept by Vince Lane is an attempt at a better experience for controlling the Philips Hue smart light. More details at
