I always recommend hosting your own Wordpress site. There are some great tutorials on how to set one up, here’s one I just searched for on Google — http://michaelhyatt.com/ez-wordpress-setup.html. Other than Wordpress, I’ve really enjoyed using Medium so far. It’s likely you’ll be able to build a readership more quickly on a platform like Medium. I tend to publish my content to both.
