Great post! I really like the idea of organically designed cities. But, I will say from my experience cities built without a simple grid system seem to fail when it comes to services like public transport. I recently moved from Auckland, New Zealand to Toronto, Canada. Auckland is a really beautiful city that developed very organically, but there wasn’t enough foresight into how it would cope with a rapidly growing population. A grid system only exists in the CBD, and public transit has suffered for it to no end. In contrast, Toronto is based on pretty rigorous grid system, making it a lot easier for all forms of public transit and yet the city is still really charming. There is really great book called ‘Happy City’ by Charles Montgomery that explains this concept in greater detail.
