We learn more about Amarantha, the strong, unstable fairy who inspires terror and despair. Feyre discovers that Prythian’s sorrow may be caused by Amarantha.

Tamlin intends to return Feyre to the human world in order to save her. Their heartfelt goodbye is full of love that remains unsaid.

Feyre faces a terrifying beast in the first trial. Feyre’s brains and willpower carry her through despite her mortal limits, making her a successful but damaged character.

Chapter 23: Rhysand Intervenes

The mysterious High Lord of the Night Court, Rhysand, steps in after the trial and offers to help in exchange for specific agreements. His actual motivations are still unknown.

Chapter 24: The Second Trial

Feyre is put through a trial that involves solving puzzles quickly. She almost succeeds again with the secret assistance of Rhysand and Lucien, but at a greater personal cost.

Chapter 25: Mind Games

Amarantha physically and mentally torments Feyre while engaging in mind-games. Although Rhysand gives comfort, Feyre is uneasy because of his murky intentions.

Chapter 26: The Bond

Feyre strikes a deal with Rhysand. Their developing relationship gives the story more intricate aspects and highlights Feyre’s mounting desperation.

Chapter 27: The Ultimate Test

In the last trial, Amarantha puts Feyre in close combat with Tamlin. Her intuition and perseverance come through as she uses Pythian mythology to solve the problem.

Chapter 28: A Deadly Deal

Feyre confronts Amarantha head-on despite mixed feelings, ultimately resolving the enigma of the trials. Amarantha’s rage puts Feyre’s unwavering devotion and fortitude to the test.

Chapter 29: The Sacrifice

Feyre fights to the point of death in order to break the curse. Her supreme display of bravery and love brings about unheard-of change.
