Real estate is about owning, operating, and profiting from hard assets — often land and/or buildings. While it is possible to get some exposure to this asset class through REITs that trade on the public stock market, doing so often still leaves you at the mercy of the stock market’s volatility.

However, it is possible to invest outside of the public stock market into real estate offerings. Real estate can be a useful source of diversification and a helpful hedge against inflation. Please note, because your investment dollars will be going into real properties, it is highly illiquid (see more about liquidity here).
