To be “Active” in Writing?

Active being the antonym of passive, what does each form of writing entail? Passive writing “yields writing that is lifeless” (Carroll 9).

Writing With LIFE

According to plainlanguage.gov, you should determine “whether the subject is doing the action or being acted upon.” If the subject is committing the action then you are writing in the active voice and vice versa.

Writing in the active voice “giv[es] credit for an action.” Following this simple rule will ensure that “your readers can visualize the action and follow the action to the conclusion” (plainlanguage.gov).
