The simulated universe is much less specific. Creationism tries to match a story, i.e. 6,000 year old dinosaurs. The simulation theory opens the door for science to consider an intended universe without having to tithe.
So if the universe is possibly a simulation, couldn’t it also be a demonstration? Or prototype? It’s highly unlikely that the universe is a free sample. Could be an accident from what was intended.
The truth is hidden amongst other unlikelies.
