ServiceNow — Week 10 beginning of Week 11

It’s Monday morning, time to rock ’em and sock ’em. It’s 8:34 A.M. I just got off the phone with Cole. He was calling me because he saw that I had signed up for his company’s product ServiceNow. What is ServiceNow and why am I getting a call from them at 8:30 on a Monday morning… well let’s back up to last week.

Monday morning, I have put my resume on several different websites to extend my search for a job. I also look at notifications that come in about jobs available and browse through javascript jobs in general. Browsing through Career Builder I see a job for javascript. Hey what’s this I see, they want someone to work with ServiceNow, you know the thing that Joe works with on a daily basis. I just blogged about it 3 weeks ago :) https://medium.com/@joshuabradford/week-7-8-oh-yes-pivotal-tracker-d27bf7eefa80

So I am pretty excited when I see the ad for the job. I understand exactly what they are talking about when they list requirements. I click the apply button and send them my resume. Fast forward to Wednesday, I get a call from Kevin. Kevin is a recruiter for the ServiceNow job I had applied for. He hires javascript developers to work with Service Now for CBS. I blab with Kevin about how I have worked with Joe and seen him modify the ServiceNow interface by accessing one of the objects built into ServiceNow with javascript. It’s all super cool and he asks me to forward him a sort of cover letter that includes all the stuff we talked about (which by the way also includes my proficiency with Excel and with SQL commands) so he can hopefully set me up with an interview next week.

Now I am thinking he is gonna call me back or maybe email me in a day or two before the week is up. Thursday no contact, on Friday I reread the job listing and see that both Perl and C are listed and I didn’t mention my experience with them in our conversation or in my email I sent him on Wednesday. So I go ahead and send him a quick email adding those to the list and actually kind of hoping he’ll get back to me with an acknowledgement note or whatnot.

Meanwhile I am working on learning more about ServiceNow. This includes a phone call to Joe, a review of some of the materials he included after our last learning session, and watching some training videos that he sent me. As I am watching one video the instructor is talking about a ServiceNow sandbox that the students can use to practice with, so I look that up but it is no longer available (Joe’s training videos were like 4 years old). In looking up the sandbox I find out that just like Pivotal Tracker I can sign up and start using the software now, at least on a trial basis.

All of this leads me to Monday morning when I am on the phone with Cole. I explain to him the situation that I am learning the software for a possible job opportunity and he makes sure I know that if I have any questions I can call him. Thanks Cole! His number is saved in my phone now :)

There’s only one problem though… I haven’t heard back from Kevin yet :( But the more astute among you might have noticed that this blog was published about 10:30 this morning, what gives? Did the blog take two hours to write. No, amazingly enough I had started the blog when I got another phone call. This call was from Vicki. She works with Kevin and surprise surprise she is working on setting me up with an interview with CBS this week. So of course I talk her ear off just like I did with Kevin. There are several points when I have more to say but I just bite my tongue ’cause I don’t want the conversation to take forever. Anyway I’m gonna study up I’ll let ya’ll know how the interview comes out! :)
