Last night I met up with some old friends for beers, pizza and good old fashioned conversation. You know, the face to face communication of yore. The last time we all saw each other was more than five years ago. Where does the time go, right? How do four people who enjoy each other’s company let so much time get between them? Life, I guess. Like my momma always said, “make new friends, keep the old, some are silver, the others gold.” I am happy we met. It was such a fun time.

A little back story on this…

The four of us met as part of a chamber of commerce business networking group ten years ago. I used to be co-owner of a web development firm. Mike and Tim are brothers. They own a commercial graphics, photography and videography business. The other friend, Chris, runs an IT Business. We all seemed to hit it off from the start. We later branched out from our chamber group to form other networking groups. More importantly, we began a quest to find the best chicken wings in the state of CT. That led to a long lasting friendship. Yes, we found some delicious chicken wings!

My favorite memory with part of this crew is dude weekend. I think it was around 2008 or 2009. Three of us spent a cold February weekend on Cape Cod. We were right on the beach, and we froze our butts off. You see, the heat in the cottage did not work well. We had to use the stove in a desperate attempt to warm the place up. We were also able to warm up by taking little adventures in the car. Despite the cold temperatures we still managed to have a blast.

I am grateful for my old, gold friends. I am happy to catch up and see how life has developed for them over the years. I am glad they are still going strong with their businesses. I am happy they are happy. I hope we can find a way to continue to meet more often. There’s still more chicken wings in need of review!

And that is your gratitude for the day.
