Trans ban is being Used as a Shield

As said by President Trump via Twitter at 8:55 a.m on Wednesday, “The United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capcity in the U.S. Military.” This is just the largest of the Trump administration’s efforts to reverse ground gained by the L.G.B.T. community. In his first 100 days, Trump removed L.G.B.T. protection within rights to restrooms, and removed protection from workplace discrimination. The largest issue with those changes are he said during his campaign “Thank you to the LGBT community! I will fight for you while Hillary brings in more people that will threaten your freedoms and beliefs.” Trump’s use of Twitter has become a way for him to shoot himself in the foot. Though even more so as a shield.

As of recent, Trump’s concern has been criticizing Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, for his recuse from the Russia investigation. Trump has also been repeatedly critizing Republican Senators for not coming to a conclusion on an Obamacare replacement. What Trump is using the Trans ban for is to shield himself from the attention of the Russia investigation and criticisms of fellow Republicans. A socially disruptive policy change is his way of shielding himself from these issues.

If the majority of the American public focus their attention on this ban, then Trump should have just enough time to pull his boiling relationship with AG Sessions down to a simmer. This is barring that Trump can refrain from anymore Twitter frenzies of criticism towards Sessions. Is Trump willing to allow Sessions to do his job? It should become very apparent within the next week if he will be willing to.

The Wall

In a recent article from Newsweek the point of the promised U.S.- Mexico border wall was brought up. The theory was the transgender ban is a way of distributing tax dollars into the wall. Though this would only cover approximately 60 miles of the 700–900 miles of the proposed wall, it is not unlikely. With failed attempts of pushing the cost onto the Mexican government, which was unrealistic in any right mind, Trump is trying to cut any amount of people or spending that would inhibit him from building the wall. This makes mire sense as Sessions has traveled to El Salvador in order to discuss the ms-13 gang. This is a big step in the border construction as the gang poses a large threat.

Trump of recent has been largely criticizing Attorney General Jeff Sessions, but they have made a point of common ground. They are both pleased with the efforts to combat the ms-13 gang. The trans ban was a way to move tax dollars and partially make amendments with Sessions. If this is the goal of Trump then it has been dangerously calculated. The only thing left is to wait and see his next move in building the wall, and in maintaining a relationship with Sessions.
