I want to preface my comments by stating that racism is an inexcusable ugliness. Worse yet, it is an ugliness that we have control over. Nobody is compelled to be a racist. Opting to be racist reveals a vile character deficiency. It is intolerable.
There is no other way to label this attack other than racist. The perpetrators should be shamed publicly. There is no excusing their conduct.
I have noticed that incidents such as what you describe seem to have escalated in frequency over the past year. We see these attacks more and more frequently as the Black Lives Matters movement has grown louder and louder. To ignore the correlation is to ignore the correlation between poverty and crime.
I have no doubt that history will alter the narrative to blame Trump’s ascendancy as “liberating the racists” but that perspective requires blurred glasses. Indeed, I believe that the BLM Movement unwittingly helped Trump rise to power by liberals talking like they are at war with white people.
Virtually, all that the public sees about the BLM Movement is that is designed to pit “us vs. them”. People responding “All Lives Matter” underscored that the phrase BLM was basically saying “the world is about black vs. white”. There is no small irony in the fact that the phrase “BLM” is the antithesis of what Dr. MLK stood for. His vision was very much like the vision of Cathleen Falsani as to what the world should be. Indeed, that vision is shared by most rational people. The rational vision is “who cares about skin color?” We all have a heart and a brain and a soul. Stop judging people on pigmentation.” The BLM Movement, however, says the opposite. Their rhetoric filled with hate says that our skin color defines us. That perspective is not just a racist perspective against white people, it is offensive to black people as well. It says “we in the BLM Movement value black people for no other reason than that they are black”. It is demeaning to everybody.
Worse yet, the obvious reaction to the BLM Movement from the neanderthal segment of Caucasians (every race has some neanderthals) is to agree that “Yes, the world is about color” and therefore they embrace a response of “F*** you, n*****!” This response is no more surprising a response than a bite from a pitbull who is poked in the eye with a stick.
I want to be crystal clear. I am not trying to excuse their conduct at all. They are complete and total assh***s. They deserve to be scorned by society. Explaining the increased prevalence of racism is not designed to excuse racism, but to curb the conduct that is likely to cause assh***s to exhibit their racist conduct.
