On Questioning Everything
So, over the years I have come to realize that no matter what happens, my understanding of things can always be refined. Although I do have first principles that underpin my knowledge of the world around me, I am in no way dedicated to any particular idea(s) as such. The one thing that science teaches us is that new evidence can come along at any point to overturn what had been previously been thought. Provisionality is key!!!
But, how do we accomplish this? Well, the answer is simple, we just question everything…over and over again. It’s called “research” for a reason. The only way to progress is to strive for full-blown paradigm shifts. Personally, I do this by being eclectic as well as eccentric. I could give two fucking shits what anyone thinks. I only care about what I know and how it is that I have come to see things the way that I do. I don’t trust anyone’s opinions, not even my own, and you shouldn’t either.
There are no infallible experts in any field or on any topic of discussion. That’s why you have to look at things from as many different points of view as you can. Don’t ever limit yourself to any one way of knowing. Constantly and consistently question everything and everyone. Never assume that anything is necessarily true, especially when you absolutely know that it must be so. This is how we get trapped inside boxes and become pedantic little shits who think they know better. I have worked tirelessly for years to get to know more than anyone I have ever met and I still don’t know shit about anything and neither do you. Don’t ever forget that. Look to the evidence that nature provides for reassurance, but never for once start to believe that you know anything for certain.
