What do you think the real problem was in this case?

The problem was in nick management because nick did not focus on managing all aspect of the project and he didn`t announce the progress of the project and he made it more difficult to himself because he`s also taking a role of software integrator and troubleshooter that’s the reason why top management complain about his work.

Does the case present a realistic scenario? Why or why not?

Yes, this is a good example of two person in an organization with a different set of way of thinking and ending up with misunderstanding.

Was Nick Carson a good project manager? Why or why not?

No, because he focus on a different role and did not trust on his team and he forget to involve the top management and misunderstand the role of project manager.

What should top management have done to help Nick?

The top management should give more time to nick to study the role of project manager and suggest to extend the project deadline to help nick to adjust in his role because he already undergo three years in different role of the project and suddenly the CEO promote him to be a project manager and the CEO didn`t give him a time to learn how to manage a big project.

What could Nick have done to be a better project manager?

Nick should apply for Integrated Change Control (ICC) to give him more time to learn and adjust so that he can overlook the project or he will find a person with a capability to fulfill the role of the software integrator and troubleshooter.
