Lovers Need Not Tell Their Sorrows

When I was young I chased the wrong love. I clutched at empty love for selfish reasons. Somebody love me—banner of my youth.

Now I am old and wise and I know the meaning of love. Love your brothers and your sisters. We’re all in this together. Show compassion to all you meet. Be slow to anger. There is no such thing as being too quick to forgive. Don’t just say the words, mean them. Be understanding. Cultivate relationships of substance.

The best love you can show yourself is steady self-improvement. The best love you can show others is selflessness. You can’t improve without pain. It hurts to see your own flaws exposed to the harsh light of honest self-reflection. The sooner you learn to accept your mistakes, the sooner you can learn not to repeat those mistakes. Learn to be gracious–to yourself and to others.
